Introducing Arcane Foci
FMC Basic » Devlog
See my blog post from yesterday! Here’s the gist:
An arcane focus has 1-5 arcane energy, letting you cast spells without spending scrolls, or even make arcane attacks. This gives mages a little more to work with—to the extent that I would give them less energy—and allows experts to act more like mages should they so wish.

Hi, love the Arcane Foci idea!
Just a couple of questions:
Maybe I missed it, but does Foci regain energy? And if they do, is it during downtime?
Also, you speak about foci being normal weapon (at least damage wise), but how do you view them in your games? Simple weapons charged with energy (like a ritual dagger) or magic devices (like a wand, that could even do ranged attacks)? Or both, maybe with the latter being rarer?
Thanks!
hi, thank you so much!
i didn’t think of foci as recharging, especially since that would mean players could get one and be done. however, it makes sense for a mage to be able to recharge a focus, so i’ve added a rule saying that :)
also i thought of foci as being like wands or staffs, but ritual daggers and similar cool items would be really neat! there’s not a rule for what they should be. the text is focused more on function than form, but you should take that as an invitation to make the form interesting to you and your friends.
